Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure for correcting and reconstructing the nose. It can be performed to correct a nose defect inherited from birth and that causes breathing problems but more often it is conducted for aesthetic reasons. This surgery procedure is performed for aesthetic reasons in cases when the nose’s physical appearance is not proportionate with the other facial features and thus draws attention, creating feelings of inferiority and insecurity in the social environment. Such cases are observed among persons whose nose is disproportionate with their face, such as an arching or deviating nose bone or the nose shape is not in harmony with the other facial features. Rhinoplasty is one of those aesthetic interventions that can radically change your look.
Rhinoplasty can be performed via two techniques: Open or Closed.
The Closed technique is performed via several incisions inside the nose, depending on the structure of the person’s nose.
The Open technique separates the nose skin from its peak at the upper lip and offers an excellent exposure of the nose for remodelling with high precision. Our doctors have all the necessary experience in both rhinoplasty techniques and will decide on which one to use based on the patient’s best interest.
During the intervention the surgeon will treat every nose element one after the other, including the back, any elevation or node, nose width and its nostrils, nose end remodelling, straightening of the bone and cartilage structure, as well as the improvement of the respiratory channel. Each of these elements is treated differently and the treatment varies from one individual to the other, based on the targeted result.
Rhinoplasty surgery is performed in a specialized medical centre. The surgery is performed under local anaesthesia and sedatives, or general aesthesia. However, in both cases the patient is asleep. The presence of the anaesthetist allows the doctor to fully concentrate and achieve the best aesthetic result possible, without dividing their attention among the intervention and the monitoring of the vital signs of the patient. Depending on the complexity of the intervention, it might last 45 to 90 minutes. The aim is to achieve a regular and natural looking nose, in harmony with the facial features, as well as the reconstruction of the respiratory channel for a healthier, sportive life.
