With time, the loss of skin elasticity and muscle tone around the eyes is inevitable. As a result, pouching skin is created on the eyelids and deep wrinkles in the lower part of the eye. The fat deposited in the lower part of the eyes resembles inflated pouches, a situation which can deteriorate due to long hours of exposure to the sun, smoking, and other inherited factors. As a result, you might look tired and older. If you are unhappy with your eye pouches or the affected eyelids, we recommend blepharoplasty to correct these problems once and for all.
There exist three types of procedures to correct specific areas. Several methods can be used for each of these areas:
Correction of upper eyelids: This surgery alongside the natural line of the eyelid is conducted via a small incision which separates the skin from the muscle and fat layers. The excessive skin, pouches, and fat are eliminated and, if necessary, the muscle is remodelled. Afterwards, the incision is closed with very thin threads. Because the incision is carried out alongside the natural line of the eyelids, the scars are invisible.
Correction of lower eyelids: The incision is carried out below the eyelashes in the lower eyelid and it is well hidden among the eye wrinkles formed by laughing. The skin is separated from the muscle and the fat part to eliminate excessive skin. Part of the fat can be used to fill out the deep lachrymal canal. Usually the incision is closed with soluble threats.
Transconjuctival Blepharoplasty: The fat found in the lower part of the eye, the so-called eye pouches, can be created without excessive falling of the skin. In this case, it is not necessary to eliminate the skin and the incision is carried out from within the lower eyelid. This technique totally avoids the visible scars.
A consultation with the doctor will help you decide which procedure is more suitable for your eyelids and aesthetic goal.
Procedure
Blepharoplasty procedure on the upper eyelid (blepharoplasty) lasts approximately 45 to 60 minutes. This intervention can be easily carried out via local anaesthesia. With patient’s request, sedatives can be prescribed under the observation of the anaesthetist. Combined blepharoplasty carried out in both eyelids lasts from 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the complexity of the case. This plastic surgery can also be carried out via local anaesthesia and with extra sedatives taken under the observation of the anaesthetist. The patient can go back home hours (at least 6) after the surgery and must be under the care of an adult.
